Annie Stensrud of KEYC-Mankato drunk on air 12/4/11
(KEYC's parent company -- United Communications -- has apparently scrubbed YouTube of the original newscast clips but this David Letterman clip showcases Annie Stensrud at her best.)
Wow. It boggles my mind how someone could show up to work obviously impaired and her co-workers let Annie Stensrud of KEYC-TV in Mankato go on the air. Whether she was drunk, on powerful cold medication or high as a kite from smoking a fat joint doesn't really matter.
This isn't the 1970s or even the 1980s. She isn't new at the job either as her bio details a series of TV stations she has been employed at. Don Shelby of WCCO-TV showed up for work very obviously drunk once early in his career in Minneapolis but went on to have a storied career. He made reparations and turned his life around and used his battle with alcohol to bring awareness to the subject. I highly doubt that Annie Stensrud -- anchoring weekends in Mankato -- is destined for greatness but I could be wrong. I do know that an impaired performance like this gets at least a few people talking and will be hard to explain down the road to future employers. I hope that this was a one-time deal and that she had simply taken too much cold medication but I have my doubts.
Since you're obviously interested in Minnesota happenings, check out MinnPics. It's the best of the best of photos from all over Minnesota! (even some from Mankato)

Why do you have your doubts?
really? why is everyone jumping to the drunk conclusion? it looked worse than that. like possibly a stroke.
Ok seriously!! Do you even know Annie?? Please enlighten me... because I do know her... she is a great friend of mine. I know for a fact that she does not drink while at work or before going to work. It is against everything that is her. She has been sick for the past week... I really wish that you wouldn't assume anything because you know when you assume something it makes an ass outta you... i would say me, but sorry i don't feel like the ass in this case. She is a great reporter, anchor, person and friend. I think you need to get your facts straight before you go accusing someone of something when you have no proof. And don't you think if she was intoxicated that they would smell the alcohol on her and tell her to go home?? HMMMMM guess you didn't really think that one through did you!! I don't know the exact circumstances with the show whether she was on cold medicine or not, but you do not need to go around SLANDERING OTHER PEOPLES NAMES!! How would you feel if it was you... And another thing... GET A LIFE!!
Re the rant from a friend: If this isn't true, it's libel, not slander. :-)
To Annie's Friend: the fact that you're her friend does not give your opinion special credibility. Just the opposite. Something was definitely wrong with Annie. Not necessarily substance abuse, but she wasn't right (I thought 'stroke' as well).
Jeez,! can't somebody just have an "off day" without being burned at the stake by low-life bloggers for it.?

That bitch was FUCKED UP & WASTED. DAMN!
Hey low-life blogger (which means the Huffington Post is also low-life, since they also posted this), thanks for posting this. It gave me a good laugh. (Of course, I assume that she's okay and it's medicine, alcohol, or something else. If it's something medical, hopefully she's okay.)
She has been to the doctor 4 times in the past week for being very ill... She found out a few things that were wrong today when she was at the doctor and is getting them taken care of. Yes if she was feeling very ill maybe she shouldn't have been on air, but the person that she is is not one to stay home in bed when she is ill. I have been called many things today as I have been defending my friend such as stupid and a bad friend for not helping her with her "apparent alcoholism". The thing is is that I am a nurse. I will not let someone be drug down by any type of substance abuse and that is not her. She does not have any substance abuse issues. I'm sorry if things sound harsh, but I believe that all of you would defend your friends the same when you know that what is being said is untrue! I just feel so bad for her since what happened was completely misconstrued!!
question, anonymous@10:35-- do you have her permission to release medical information about her?
if not, and you're a nurse, you should know better, patient confidentiality and all that.
if you do, kudos for being out there defending your friend's honor.
(for the record, i don't find this video amusing, my first thought was "i hope she's okay". an awful lot of pretty demented people out there making fun of this.)
call me "pfw".
In all honesty, KEYC news is a trainw wreck to begin with. I watch it for the laughs. When I watched the Sunday night news I thought "here we go again". The more I heard I thought about that reporter from the Grammy's. My problem with it is, today is Wednesday and the big cheese at KEYC is only saying it is a personnel matter they are taking care of...this doesn't say medical issues...sick...ill...cold medicine...this says something wrong was done and they are taking care of the situation...So I assume drunk and will wait to be proven wrong.
My God, i don't think some of you realise what being 'drunk' is like. It seems clear to me that she may be struggling with medication of some sort. I know myself that my medication for colds/flu can make me wary and bad for communication. I'm on the side of the friend!
From the rant from the retard... I grew up in Mankato, worked as a bartender at the clubs there... don't tell me she didn't have a drink... C'mon! Your not that good of a friend if you believe everything everyone tells you!
Wouldn't surprise me is she did toke a joint after a few drinks.
Merry Christmas from Texas:
Like her "anonymous" friend, I would err both on the side of meds and/or sickness. I don't know why everyone jumps on the alcohol train ? Must be the liberal media up to their tricks again - I hate that term "liberal media" but it surely explains the activities and manner most of the media reports in this country - never un-biased, or objective, or even factual, they just try to "create news" instead of reporting honestly. But then I guess it starts from the top (Obama), so it figures. We are innocent until proven guilty as a point of law in this country so give this poor anchor a chance until there is proof, one way or the other !
OK PEOPLE....FAYI....I can catagorically state she was infact intoxicated - period! Why can I say this? BECAUSE I was at the same xmas function she was!! To her friend (thats if its not Annie herself) get the facts correct as you are way off it. She was DRUNK ok, and Im prepaired to go on the record to say both myself and others had seen her drinking prior to going on air. As for her family saying she has in illness, well it couldnt be that bad if she is out drinking prior to her being at work!!
Leave her alone. I am sure that it is hard enough dealing with this shit without everyone bashing her. She is a good girl, and would never do anything to hurt anyone. I feel horrible for her... Annie if you read any of the crap that people write- just know that it will blow over... Life will be good again, and some day you will look back at all of this and laugh. If anything feel sorry for the ones that have nothing better to do that jump on the "bashing bandwagon" those people have nothing better to do. They are cruel and what goes around comes around. Chin up!
seriously, whether she was on cold medicine or had a few too many at a xmas party, who cares. mistakes happen. why do people feel the need to bring someone else down, im assuming its out of jealousy.
Well then.
OWNED.
