What games are in the Olympic games

With the London 2012 Summer Olympics seeming to go on forever and some sports taking place during each of the 17 days of Olympic competition, many people are asking just what games are in the Olympic games. To put it in terms of numbers, there are 26 sports and 39 disciplines.

The sports and disciplines featured in the Olympic games are as follows with the number of final competitions in parentheses:
