Simpletons will say, "Gee, 67% of people say gas prices won't go below $3/gallon again."
I also refer to those 67% as realists. Others would call them pessimists. Some would say that the other 33% of respondents are optimists thinking that gas prices will indeed dip below $3/gallon. I prefer to think of them as another word -- idiots.
You have to understand where I'm coming from to know how I arrived at the scientifically studied conclusion that 1/3 of Americans (33%=1/3, right?) are then idiots. I see this not only in scientific polls such as this one but in my daily life. Hell, sometimes even I fit into that dreaded 33% idiot pool where the sun sets in the east, down is up and dinosaurs lurk around every corner waiting to steal your chocolate frosty. It's an unpleasant world to live in -- especially if you believe that there's a snowball's chance in hell that gas prices will dip below level not seen since early in 2008.Hey, I'd rather be totally wrong about this prediction than be right and be able to gloat about being right but either way, I'm in the majority. Are you?

Definitely. Gas will go below $3 again when politicians start working for the people again instead of themselves and their puppetmasters. Which will happen when the planet explodes.
While I can certainly be an idiot (at times) when it comes to gas prices I am a realistic pessimist. We pay (approx.) $1.40 per litre here (1 US gallon = 3.7854...litres) and I don't see the price coming down any time soon. What I do see is our way of life changing.
I don't think they will ever dip below $3.50 ever again.
No chance. We'll be lucky if it stays below $4.
One thing confuses me though... they raise gas prices when demand is high, and they would also raise gas prices if the demand was too low - so what would the demand have to be for gas prices to come down?
I predicted house values would go down. I live in Michigan, we got to see it first! Foreclosures? Shame on our school systems that couldn't teach in 13 yrs. the math it takes to lend or borrow money!
Well you know if you only spend 20 bazillion dollars on a new jeep you can get 2.99 gas for life.
What's that you say - you weren't instantly enticed by that commercial...
I want to know why gas prices never went up back in the late 70s when people were LINED up trying to get gas?
You want to see gas come significantly down? Start offering compressed air technology or hyrdro technology...as soon as they have some competition they'll be forced to do so. Without competition, who can really stop them?
Jeff, I have no idea what the answer is to your query. The only way prices would actually drop is if there was nearly zero demand for gas.
VE, great idea and hydrogen may be the most useable idea in the longrun but cellulosic ethanol is definitely something to look at in the short term.
All in all, great feedback folks!
While I'm idiotic enough to HOPE that they'd dip below $3, I'm cynical enough to think that it will never, ever, ever happen again.
