Every day, millions of professionally- and self-published items hit the internet and today I stumbled across two...
The first is from my old hometown's newspaper...
A 34-year-old Austin man was arrested Sunday for allegedly attacking another man with a chair leg.
The second one comes from a Craigslist ad...
sew my stupid ugly clothes back together (minneapolis, uptown)
i wear a lot of stupid ugly clothes. i am very particular about the stupid way that i dress, so when something like a pair of pants has a hole in the crotch, i am devastated. that being said, i am pretty devastated over a few pairs of pants. usually i have my mom sew them, but she lives out in bloomington and honestly, i feel she half-asses the job because she thinks i dress like her father did in the 1970s. she has a track record of (possibly intentionally) ruining my clothes, but i like to assume it is an accident because i dont like imagining that my mom is capable of being all cunning and mean.
i also have a shirt that needs a bit of alteration and a pair of pants that could use some shortening for my gnome-like legs.
if you can aid in this task, i will pay you money or take you to a local Chuck E. Cheese where you can play skee-ball while i cry about my childhood. you don't even have to do that good job a job - just make sure they stay together.
sincerely yours,
crotchhole jackson
Location: minneapolis, uptown

Thank You Craigslist
It's amazing what you can find on Craigslist - especially when you're not really looking for it.
After a family thing yesterday, I was amazed at how much the baby liked her cousin's swing. She seemed almost angry when we plucked her out of it. It made me realize that I'm going to need a backyard swing sooner rather than later.
That is where the Craigslist search came in. A simple search for "swing" in the for sale items brought up 1,000 items. But it was this one that jumped out at me.

Original Love/sex SwingI don't care how thrifty a person is, it takes a different type of person to buy someone's used sex swing. That's like picking up a used vibrator at a garage sale. It's a line that shouldn't be crossed.
4 legs. Stands about 6.5ft tall.
Comfortably holds 200lbs.
Paint chipping from legs, only cosmetic. does not come in original package.
Cash only, pickup only. Maplewood by lower afton and mcknight.
Will delete posting when item gone.

Trading ring for fish house
I can say it with pride, I peruse the for sale items on Craigslist. Today, though, I scrolled down a mere half-dozen items first instead of searching for the camera lens I want/need.
When you see a post with this title, you just have to click it...
Brand New Beautiful Diamond Anniversary Ring / or Trade - $800 (Shakopee, MN)
Brand New Diamond Anniversary Ring. This ring would be a great gift for any girlfriend or wife. The ring is 14kt White Gold with 9 Brilliant Cut round diamonds set in a channel. The ring is .75ct, color is G-H, clarity SI1-SI2. This ring is appraised at $1544.23 from Continental Diamonds in St.Louis Park. I will give you the appraisel if needed. I am willing to trade for a fishouse on wheels as long as the values match. Please email me with questions.
Now there could be a multitude of reasons for this. Maybe his old lady was nauseated by the style of the ring. Maybe she walked in to the house after a hard day's work only to find her bent over the aquarium in the living room taking it from his best friend Steve. Maybe the second scenario happened just days before the then-couple's anniversary and after punching his naked friend Steve, the jilted husband calmly left and after cleaning out the couple's bank accounts decided to sell the ring for half-price and spend some time on one of Minnesota's 10,000 frozen lakes.
And if scenario two is correct, I hope that Steve has a broken nose.

Craigslist ad leads to murder
I go away for one weekend and this happens.
The woman (Katherine Ann Olson) was from Richfield and was meeting with someone in Savage seeking a babysitter. She found the gig on the popular Craigslist web site.
It wasn't like she was older and unaware of the stigma attached with scams and the like that run rampant online. And it isn't like the "south of the river" area where Savage lies is a "scary" or "sketchy" place. I work in the general area, lived even closer, do the bulk of my shopping in the area and frequent the Burnsville area where the young woman was found dead. Nothing about this area has ever made me feel uneasy and doing a fair amount of business via Craigslist has taught me to be wary but I have never been fearful -- just careful. When meeting with potential employers, it has always been in a coffee shop setting and I will say that when someone is shy of direct phone contact or in a hurry to start a project, it sets off an alarm with me and I tend to take my sweet time. I wouldn't treat a gig such as babysitting any differently.
The television stations have been careful in their coverage of the story. The Star-Tribune, doing their best to treat Craigslist as a shady place to advertise and do business in general did their best to connect Craigslist and crimes numerous times while the local Savage newspaper has a factual story but without the murder suspect's name. It makes me realize that no place is safe from crime but I feel safer in the Twin Cities suburbs than I do in parts of SPAMTown USA.
